About

Kamilah Ahmed is a London-based British Bangladeshi textile artist and embroidery designer whose work sits at the intersection of commercial design and artistic expression, spanning interiors, fashion, and collectible design.

Kamilah Ahmed embroidering a silk textile panel with tiger and floral motifs for The British Council commission.

Her practice brings heritage craft techniques into dialogue with contemporary design - rooted in traditions such as Jamdani weaving and Ari hook embroidery - surfaces are reimagined through material experimentation and digital process. The results are intricate silk tapestries, bespoke embroidered panels, and site-specific installations that connect cultural storytelling with architectural and interior contexts.

Kamilah’s values centre on sustaining traditional craft practices while extending their creative potential through innovation. Graduating from the RCA in MA Textiles in 2015, she built her foundation through a decade of couture embroidery for Dior, Valentino, and Dolce & Gabbana, before leading new embroidery design and development at de Gournay. From her studio at Cockpit Arts, Bloomsbury, she develops commissions, collaborations, and cross-disciplinary partnerships, exploring embroidery as both cultural archive and contemporary expression.

Setting up her studio in 2021 as the inaugural recipient of the New Craftsmen award at Cockpit Arts, Bloomsbury she works with interior designers, architects, cultural institutions, and fellow artisans, she brings together hand techniques and unexpected materials to create works that balance narrative, technical mastery, and material resonance. Projects and collaborations include commissions with the British Council, collaborations with Spinocchia Freund for The Curator’s Room X WOW!house 2025, the Homo Faber Venice Biennale 2024 and 2025, Seville capsule, alongside her forthcoming installations for Collect Open 2026 at Somerset House and Leighton House commission for The Arab Hall, 2026
